Joe Garassino was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in June 2012 after complaining of a stomach ache.
Watertown Golf Club Pro Ian Marshall explains the rules of the putting contest to Mike Cavallo, Anthony Macnamera and Nicky Cavallo at Joe Garassino Golf Tournament June 18. The event, attended by over 300 people, raised money for others cancer patients in memory of Joe Garassino, a 29-year-old Watertown man who died in January after a seven month battle with the disease. The Joe Garassino Foundation presented a donation of $8,500 to the Make A Wish Foundation to support a 12-year-old who was diagnosed with cancer, a $2,500 donation to The Harold Leever Cancer Center and a $2,500 donation to Watertown Police Sgt. Tim Gavallas, who is currently in treatment for cancer. Mike Garassino plans to hold the event annually in his son’s honor and is planning another event in the fall.
